Savinho given Man City notice as transfer conundrum emerges

Pep Guardiola spent his Saturday talking up the skills of new signing Savinho.

There was chatter about how devastating the winger is in one v one situations and what an impact he made at Girona last season. City have seen enough from him to keep him in the squad for the upcoming season and he will be thrown straight into the action.

It will be interesting to see how that affects Oscar Bobb though, for the homegrown star stole the show from a variety of positions that Savinho would be proud of. The Brazilian has said that while the right wing is his favourite, he is happy to play across the team; he may well have to get past Bobb.

Bobb was the sharpest of City's attackers in their first pre-season against Celtic, and it was his ability to find space that stood out. He converted the first goal from a central position, moved out to the right to set up Maximo Perrone and then chipped in a wonderful cross that Erling Haaland buried.

Savinho is eager to get stuck into his new challenge at City, having watched the first team train after signing his deal before he went back on his holidays. However, Bobb is not fazed by the prospect of the extra competition.

The response has been mature. Instead of sulking, Bobb has picked himself up and put in the performances to ensure that he is not quickly discarded for the shiny, new expensive toy. That was the case in training, and there is now even more evidence against the game against Celtic.
