Saudi Pro League, Turkey and Donny van de Beek transfer options after Manchester United snub

Donny van de Beek is running out of time to secure regular football this season after Manchester United omitted him from their 25-man squad for the Champions League group-stage.

United have been pitted against Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray in Group A upon their return to the marquee European competition this campaign. However, after former mentor Erik ten Hag brutally cut Van de Beek from his initial list, the ousted Dutchman will play no part.

Despite being available for transfer this summer, Van de Beek was unable to secure a switch before deadline day. However, there are one or two potential escape routes still on offer for the 26-year-old. Clubs in Belgium, Greece, Turkey and other European countries can still strike business before their respective cut-offs, while the lucrative Saudi Arabia market remains open, too.

Here are the possible options for Van de Beek to consider to avoid more time sitting on the substitutes bench or in the stands.

Which transfer markets are still open?

The Premier League window shut on September 1, alongside the top-five European divisions. However there are still some countries where the window is open; including Belgium (September 6), Greece (September 11) and Turkey (September 15). English clubs can still sell to clubs in those leagues.

Eric Bailly departed United on a free transfer to Besiktas after the Premier League deadline passed. Turkish clubs Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have been mooted with an interest in van de Beek.
