Sam Lammers sparks Utrecht frenzy as Rangers flop has fans already demanding permanent transfer after dazzling debut

He's only played for them once but Sam Lammers already has Utrecht fans demanding he is signed permanently.

The Rangers forward joined the Eredivisie team on loan and made his debut from the start in a 0-0 draw with Vitesse. That result doesn't suggest a striking masterclass at face value, but Lammers impressed in the game, creating three chances for his side and having more shots (four) than anyone else on the pitch.

He said ahead of the game that goals are "magical" and despite his first eluding him in his first game back in the Netherlands since leaving PSV in 2020, he did enough to impress his new fans who already see him as an upgrade on striker rivals Isac Lidberg and Mats Seuntjens. One fan wrote: "Lammers brings much more energy than Lidberg and Seuntjes combined," while another added: "What a breath of fresh air that Lammers is. Has already shot more than Lidberg in the entire first half of the season."

One account rounding up the first 45 minutes of the 0-0 stalemate said: "FC Utrecht is better footballing team and also got the better chances, but the well playing debutant Lammers, Flamingo, Bousaid, Ter Avest and Jensen did not get the ball in, making it 0-0 at half-time."

Philippe Clement won't be ruling out a return to Rangers for Lammers if he makes his spell in the Netherlands count. One Utrecht fan, though, believes they should already be pushing to sign him on the strength of his first game. They wrote: "It may be quick, but Utrecht should go all out to buy Lammers next season."
