Todd Cantwell survives madcap Rangers injury scare but Alex Lowry suffers transfer limbo after hammer blow
Philippe Clement has revealed that Rangers star Todd Cantwell has overcome an injury scare following an awkward off-field clash with Hibs boss Nick Montgomery.
After cutting the gap at the top of the league to five points with a win at Easter Road, the Light Blues will look to keep the pressure on Celtic by seeing off St Mirren. However, it appeared the win had come at a cost with Cantwell appearing to pick up a knock in the first half. Kanayo Megwa and Elie Youan were chasing down the Rangers star and the Hibs duo scythed him down - before he tumbled into the home dugout and taking out Montgomery in the process.
Despite dusting himself down to score in the capital, Cantwell did not emerge for the second half. But before the Scottish Premiership clash in Paisley, the Rangers boss moved to ease fears over his fitness. With Nicolas Raskin also replaced at the break, Clement said: "Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin are ready for action tomorrow and will be available - Kieran Dowell, Ben Davies, Kemar Roofe and Danilo are out."
However, the news was less positive for Alex Lowry. The youngster saw his loan at Hearts cut short with Clement admitting he would like to send the playmaker elsewhere on loan this month.
But plans could be scuppered with the player returning from Tynecastle with a knock. On the 20-year-old, Clement said: "Alex Lowry returned from Hearts with an injury - and will be out for the next 6-8 weeks. We didn't know the severity of his injury when he first returned.
"Alex Lowry is a talented player - he developed away on loan and we are disappointed he is injured. It is difficult for him to get minutes here - so it is not an ideal situation."
