Ryan Jack injury blow as Rangers midfielder forced out of Scotland squad for Spain showdown

Ryan Jack has been forced out of the Scotland squad for Thursday's crunch Euro 2024 clash with Spain in Seville.

The midfielder didn't feature for Rangers in their 3-0 Scottish Premiership win over St Mirren in Paisley on Sunday and now the 31-year-old is out of Steve Clarke's pool for the Group A fixture against Luis de la Fuente's side followed by a friendly against France in Lille next Tuesday. Jack made his international debut six year ago and has won 16 caps for his country.

But the news will also come as a concern to his club given his injury record and the the Ibrox side's current state, trailing Celtic by seven points in the league and without a manager. Jack was substituted at half-time in the 3-1 defeat against his old club Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium last weekend which proved the final straw for Michael Beale as the axe fell on the beleaguered boss.

Steven Davis has taken over as caretaker boss but was unable to use his former midfielder partner for the Europa League defeat to Aris Limassol in Cyprus or the win over the Buddies on Sunday. It remains to be seen how long Jack will be sidelined, with a new boss expected to be in place for the first game after the international break at home to Hibs on October 21.
