Rutherglen Glencairn boast 100 per cent record at top of league, but boss is taking nothing for granted

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce insists he is taking nothing for granted after his unbeaten side soared to the summit of the West of Scotland First Division with a thumping win over Petershill.

Glencairn have had an impressive start to the season with a 100 per cent record, beating Petershill 5-1 on Saturday, following a 3-0 win over a Shotts side that were themselves undefeated until last Wednesday night.

Ryan McManus netted a hat-trick then turned provider for Lewis Blane and Dylan Henry as Glens ran riot.

McManus was on target in the midweek game, either side of strikes by Sean McGuire and Roan Fitzpatrick as Glens sealed the three points in a first-half blitz.

That leaves Glencairn a point above Shotts at the summit, and two ahead of third-placed Peasy, as they head to eighth-placed Blantyre Victoria for another big game this weekend.

Pryce said: “It has been a good start for us, there’s no question about that.

“It was a good week for us, three wins in a week and two of them against the league leaders as they were, so we’re pleased with the progress the group is making at the moment.

“We know there’s a lot of football still to be played, loads of room for improvement with this young squad, but we’re in a decent place at the moment.

“All we can do is keep plugging away and winning games.

“We’re only in August, there’s only six games been played, so there’s a lot of football to be played and there will be tricky spells that we’ll have to go through, because every team has them.

“But the management team here are experienced enough to cope with that, and we have real faith and trust in the group here that they will be able to cope with that as well.”

Glens now travel to a Vics side that have tumbled from third place
