Ruben Amorim has been honest with Manchester United fans - and it's good news

If Manchester United's supporters were not already energised by the impending arrival of Ruben Amorim, they most definitely are now.

In his penultimate game in charge of Sporting Lisbon, the 39-year-old saved arguably his greatest night in charge of the Portuguese club until his final home game at the helm, masterminding an impressive 4-1 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League.

Inspired by a Viktor Gyokeres hat-trick, Sporting recovered from a goal down to blow Pep Guardiola's men away, leaving United's supporters in awe of the incoming head coach.

Despite having to withstand a barrage of pressure, particularly in the first half, Sporting stood firm, cancelling out Phil Foden's fourth-minute opener through Gyokeres shortly before half-time. Making one his trademark runs, he breached the City defence and finished excellently.

Much to City's surprise, Amorim's side started the second half at full throttle, taking a 3-1 lead within four minutes of the restart. Maximiliano Araujo made it 2-1 before Gyokeres, via the penalty spot, claimed his second to extend the home side's lead.

The Swede, who is being heavily linked with the prospect of following Amorim to Old Trafford, completed his hat-trick by converting a second penalty with 80 minutes on the clock.
