Roy Keane expresses Manchester United 'fear' amid Champions League battle

Roy Keane has heaped importance on Manchester United's need to finish fourth this season but says the club are in "trouble".

The Reds survived a scare against Norwich last weekend as the Canaries fought back from two goals down only for Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick-sealing free-kick secured an important win. With that result and defeats for Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, United are still within touching distance in the race for the top four.

Erik ten Hag remains in pole position to be in the Old Trafford hotseat come the beginning of next season but some of their transfer dealings may hinder on their involvement in the Champions League. They face an in-form Liverpool tonight (Tuesday) with Jurgen Klopp's side looking to move top of the Premier League ahead of Manchester City's tussle with Brighton tomorrow but the Premier League winning captain has his doubts over the Reds chances.

"It has been a poor season, finishing fourth people are getting excited by that," Keane said, speaking to Sky Sports. "They are in trouble, but this could be something that ends up saving their season.

"That could help with getting a new manager is, new players in and of course United want to be in the Champions League every season. But you fear for them tonight, we have already seen earlier on in the season this United team gave up and the worry is, if Liverpool are really at it then it is going to be a long night for Manchester United obviously."
