Roy Keane tells Man United 'important' transfer they must make amid Victor Lindelof criticism

Roy Keane believes that Manchester United will need to sign another centre-back in the summer, with Victor Lindelof coming in for criticism.

United managed to end their winless run on Monday as they defeated Brentford 3-0 in their final home match of the season. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane also getting on the scoresheet.

It was perhaps United's best display under Ralf Rangnick with some great attacking play at times, but there were still lapses at the back. David de Gea managed to keep a clean sheet but his defence still allowed Brentford 14 shots.

A leaky back-line has been highly costly for United this season. Captain Harry Maguire has endured a difficult year, Varane has struggled for consistency due to injuries, while Phil Jones and Eric Bailly have rarely been featured. Lindelof has had a decent campaign but Keane believes the Swedish international can no longer be relied upon.

The former United captain thinks United will have to go out and bring another central defender in the summer. He told Sky Sports: "I still think they’ll be looking for another centre-halve.

"Lindelof has let Man United down far too many times. He’s done well tonight but I think a centre-halve will be an important signing for Man United."

MEN Sport understands that as well as a defensive-midfielder, with a deal for Leeds' Kalvin Philipps being worked on, a new centre-back is indeed a target for the summer transfer window. The club may look to reignite their interest in Villarreal's Pau Torres.
