Roscommon's Cathal Heneghan has received a one-game ban after Jason Foley incident

Roscommon's Cathal Heneghan has received a one-match ban in the wake of the widely-circulated incident with Jason Foley in last Sunday's league encounter in Dr Hyde Park.

Heneghan appeared to stamp on the Kerry full-back's ankle after punching a goal in the 54th minute of Roscommon's six-point home defeat to the Munster champions.

Foley remained on the pitch, but was substituted minutes later after contesting a Kerry kick-out and ended up stricken on the turf with what appeared to be an injury to the same foot.

RTÉ Sport understands that the CCCC have since proposed a one-match ban for Henaghan for 'behaving in a way dangerous to an opponent'.

Heneghan has two days to either accept the ban or request a personal hearing.

Should the player accept the sanction, he will miss next Sunday's final league game away to Division 1 leaders Derry in Celtic Park, a match Roscommon need to win to have any chance of retaining top tier status.

It would also mean, however, that Heneghan is available for the Connacht semi-final against Mayo or New York on 21 April.

Speaking after the match, Kerry manager Jack O’Connor said that the injury to Foley "looks a bad one" and it is now feared the Ballydonoghue man will miss the Munster championship, with the Kingdom due to play Cork or Limerick in the provincial championship on 20 April.
