"New To The Job But...": Ravi Shastri's Honest Assessment Of Shubman Gill's Captaincy

Impressed by his leadership skills in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), former India head coach Ravi Shastri has lavished huge praise on Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill. After taking over the captaincy reign from Hardik Pandya, who is now the captain of Mumbai Indians, ahead of IPL 2024, Gill has impressed with his leadership qualities, winning two of his first three games at the helm. On Sunday, Gill led GT to their second win of the campaign, a seven-wicket triumph over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Speaking during the mid-innings break, Shastri said Gill had the plans in his mind and didn't waste much time on the field.

"One aspect I want to touch on is Shubman Gill. He was calm. I thought he captained the side very well. He's new to the job, but, you know, he's adjusting extremely well, because he didn't waste time with his placings. He had a plan in his mind from the outset and which was good to see," Shastri said on Star Sports.

In the match against SRH, Gill scored 36 from 28 balls to give GT a flying start in chase of 163.

After his dismissal, GT lose quick wickets, allowing SRH to take control of the proceedings.

However, Sai Sudharsan played a magnificent knock of 45 runs from 36 balls to take GT across the finishing line.

While speaking at the post-match presentation, Sudharsan claimed that it was a 'difficult' wicket to face fast bowlers.

The 22-year-old also praised Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan for restricting Hyderabad to 162 runs.

"I'm happy that my contribution helped the team win, so definitely happy. It was a difficult wicket to play the fast bowlers, bowling into the pitch was hard to score off, so we decided to target that one over of spin. Great contributions from Mohit
