Albion Rovers "must see games out" as boss questions "dubious" Braves penalty in draw

Sandy Clark says his Albion Rovers side must be better at seeing games out after a tale of two penalties in their draw at Caledonian Braves.

The Wee Rovers scored from the spot 13 minutes from time when Niyah Joseph fired them in front, but just five minutes later Braves got a penalty of their own that Matty Collins converted to earn the hosts a point.

Clark claimed the Caley Braves penalty was a “dubious” one, however he was frustrated Rovers didn’t keep the back door shut and that they failed to capitalise on two late chances to win the game, with Braves keeper Adam Brown denying them with a double save.

He said: “On reflection, a draw is probably a fair result, but once we got ahead we really should be better and see the game out.

“Our penalty, there was no doubt about and it was an easy one to give. The referee could also have given a yellow card to the defender involved, which would have seen him sent off.

“It is up to the referee, obviously, because it doesn’t need to be a red card, but we’ve had situations ourselves where it is the same thing and we’ve had players sent off.

“That would have finished the game in our favour, I think.

“Caley Braves came back at us and their penalty was dubious, to say the least. But if you put your foot in you give the referee a decision to make and he has given a penalty.

“We came back from that well and had a couple of chances to win it. Their keeper made some good saves to deny us a win, so it is frustrating.

“When you get ahead, you want the three points.

“Their pitch is one that is very difficult to get a tempo on. It is an astroturf pitch but it is an old one, put it that way, and the home team are more used to that than us.
