Roma boss Jose Mourinho will be happy about rule change for Leicester City tie after comments

Roma boss Jose Mourinho did not hold back on his thoughts on the refereeing decisions in the first leg of his side’s Europa Conference League quarter-final against Bodo/Glimt as UEFA announce the introduction of VAR for the semi-final vs Leicester City.

The Italian side found themselves 2-1 down after the away leg. But a 4-0 win in the second leg just a week later saw Mourinho’s side book themselves a place in the semi-final.

It is there that they come up against City after Brendan Rodgers ’ side overcame PSV Eindhoven 2-1 in the quarter-final. The first leg of the semi-final sees Roma travel to the King Power Stadium on Thursday.

Ahead of that game, UEFA have announced that they have taken the decision to utilise VAR for both the semi-finals and final of the competition. The previous rounds have seen the games played without the use of technology, unlike other UEFA tournaments.

VAR is used weekly in both the Premier League and Serie A, meaning that both teams are used to it’s implementation. If Mourinho’s comments after the first leg vs Bodo/Glimt is anything to go by, then the Roma boss will be happy to see the technology introduced to the competition.

"When we played in Rome against them, there were two very clear penalties for us that the referee did not see," he told Sky Sports Italia after the 2-1 defeat.

"While today there were two moves that were flagged offside and the first half ended with a ridiculous situation as the offside flag was up on a throw-in, which shows you the level."

Following the first leg at the King Power Stadium, City travel to the Stadio Olimpico for the second leg a week later. The winner of the tie will take on either Marseille or Feyenoord in the final of the competition in Triana,
