Rio Ferdinand sets new Manchester United summer target after Mason Mount transfer

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United must target a new striker after completing a deal to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea.

The England international was spotted at Carrington on Monday and Tuesday as he completed the final stages of his transfer from the London club. On Wednesday, United officially announced Mount would be moving to Old Trafford on a five-year deal, with the option of a further year.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Mount said: "It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.

"Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.

One former player who is a big fan of the transfer is Ferdinand. The ex-central defender believes Chelsea will one day rue the decision to sell Mount while naming the position Ten Hag must now look to stregnthen in the window.
