Rio Ferdinand identifies the 'big difference' Man United's players will notice with Ruben Amorim

Former defender Rio Ferdinand believes Ruben Amorim's character compared with Erik ten Hag's will be the biggest difference Manchester United's players spot when they start working with the new head coach.

Amorim was officially named as United's new boss on Friday, just four days after Ten Hag was sacked. The 39-year-old has signed a contract at Old Trafford until 2027.

The Portuguese chief will officially take charge on November 11 and his first game at the helm will be against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on November 24. Ruud van Nistelrooy will oversee matters until then.

Amorim, who is considered as one of European football's most up-and-coming coaches, has won five trophies during his time at Sporting, including two league titles. With plenty of credit in the bank, United believe they appointed a coach that will help take them forward.

To find out more about Amorim, Ferdinand spoke to former United teammate and Lisbon ace Nani earlier this week, with the former Reds winger issuing a glowing assessment of the new United boss.

Ferdinand, posting a video on his personal X account, said: "I spoke to Nani actually the other day, and he said 'Rio, whatever you want to talk about, tactics or whatever, the players play for him, they love him and they respect him'.

"One of the issues I think with Erik ten Hag and what he [Nani] said about Amorim... he said that he's very straight and very direct. From what I am hearing... I'm talking to people that have played for and played with [Amorim], but also been around him as a human.
