Ridvan Yilmaz Rangers injury fears grow as former Man Utd golden boy emerges as potential transfer replacement

Fears are growing that Rangers full-back Ridvan Yilmaz is set to be out of action for months after being carried off on a stretcher during a bruising Champions League defeat to Dynamo Kyiv.

Record Sport understands the Turkish international had to postpone a scan on his damaged thigh because of the extent of the swelling. And that has left the Ibrox medical team concerned that the injury could be worse than first feared - with the potential for it to keep him sidelined until some time in the autumn.

It’s believed manager Philippe Clement is already scouring the market, looking for possible cover in the event that those fears are confirmed over the coming days. The Belgian boss let Borna Barisic leave the club as part of his major summer rebuild and drafted in Brazilian Jefte - who was sent off against Kyiv at Hampden - to provide Yilmaz with competition for the position.

Record Sport has been told that the name of one time Manchester United golden boy Brandon Williams has been on a list of potential targets since the end of last season - and the 23-year-old could now move up the pecking order in terms of priority. Williams burst onto the scene at Old Trafford five years ago as a teenager under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, making 37 top team appearances in his breakthrough campaign.

Williams was even being tipped to be fast tracked for an England cap at the time before falling out of the picture at United and then being sent out on loan to Norwich and Ipswich. United announced in June that Williams would be leaving the club in the summer at the end of his contract and he remains available as a free agent.
