Rabbi Matondo facing weeks on the sidelines as Rangers injury jinx strikes again with winger out of Wales squad

Rabbi Matondo sat out Wales training with a hamstring injury after he was forced off for Rangers in Sunday's defeat to Celtic.

Winger Matondo had been tipped for an exit from Ibrox this summer but has been an important player for Philippe Clement so far and started their last two league games. He scored two and assisted two in the rout of Ross County before starting Sunday's trip to Parkhead.

From Matondo's perspective however, it was miserable for more reasons than one. He was forced off in the first half with an injury and Clement was left sweating his condition heading into the international break. Now, it's reported by PA that Matondo missed training for his country ahead of their Nations League clashes with Turkey and Montenegro.

He sat out the Tuesday morning session and it's unclear if he'll be able to play any part in their games, or whether he has stayed behind in Glasgow for treatment. With Matondo's latest injury a hamstring problem, however, it seems likely to be a case of weeks on the sidelines - with a quickfire return against Dundee United on September 15 looking tight.

It comes at a crucial time in the season with Rangers then facing Dundee in the League Cup before their Europa League campaign against Malmo gets underway on Thursday, September 26. Clement will be hoping to have Matondo back and available for then.
