Richard Arnold explains how Manchester United reached Mason Greenwood decision and gives Antony update
Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold admits he made the 'ultimate decision' that Mason Greenwood should continue his career elsewhere following his summer exit.
Greenwood, 22, joined Spanish side Getafe on a season-long loan deal on the final day of the summer transfer window after United announced he would not return to the squad following an internal investigation into the allegations made against him on social media in January 2022.
United opened its own review into the events after the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February it had dropped charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against the forward. United announced in late-August that it would be best for Greenwood to continue his career elsewhere.

That, however, was a U-turn after an original plan to reintegrate him into the first-team squad prompted a backlash from supporters. Unrest among some of the club's own employees also played a key role in forcing United into a reversing their initial decision.
Now, CEO Arnold has admitted that, despite being forced into changing his decision, the club reached the right conclusion in the end.
"With Mason, as I am sure you can appreciate, this was an extremely difficult and complex situation," said Arnold, speaking at a United Fans' Forum earlier this week. "We conducted a detailed investigation over several months, considering all the evidence available.
"The evidence presented to us contained important facts that were not in the public domain. I made the ultimate decision as CEO that Mason's career should continue elsewhere.
