RB Leipzig in nightmare Rangers return warm up as Europa League foes top four hopes fade in defeat to 10 men

RB Leipzig will need to dust themselves down quickly for Rangers after defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Domenico Tedesco fielding a full strength side as he shifted the focus away from the Europa League and on to a top four finish in the Bundesliga.

However, 10-man 'Gladbach but a massive dent in their hopes of reaching the Champions League through their domestic division.

The home side took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes through Breed Embolo, before Leipzig talisman Christopher Nkunku levelled the game.

But just before half-time Jonas Hoffman put Mönchengladbach back in front.

The visitors were given plenty of encouragement to rescue the game and close the gap on fourth-placed Freiburg when Nico Elvedi saw red for the hosts.

In the end as they chased an equaliser things went from bad to worse as Hoffman netted his second after 77 minutes.

It means that a weary Leipzig could be arriving in the Ibrox cauldron as they look to book their place in Seville just 72 hours after a loss.

Gio van Bronckhorst will have taken plenty of encouragement from the defeat and will hope that playing the game so close to kick-off in Govan gives the side the extra edge.
