Rasmus Hojlund has done what Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney did for Manchester United

Rasmus Hojlund added his name into a select group for Manchester United when scoring twice in the Champions League against his boyhood club FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

Hojlund put United in control at Parken Stadium with two first-half goals before madness ensued after teammate Marcus Rashford saw red following VAR intervention. Ten-man United were pegged back from 2-0 and 3-2 up and Copenhagen eventually snatched all three points in Group A.

Despite being yet to open his Premier League account, 21-year-old Hojlund has been in top goal-scoring form in Europe with five goals in four Champions League appearances this season. However, those goals have come in losing causes against Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and now Copenhagen.

In getting his name on the score-sheet against the Danish side, meanwhile, Hojlund joined United greats including Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo when looking at one quirky Champions League statistic. The Denmark striker is only the fifth United man to score away against an opponent from his home country in European Cup history!

Ronaldo managed the feat twice during his first spell at Old Trafford. The iconic five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored in Portugal against boyhood club Sporting Lisbon (2007/2008) and FC Porto the following season (2008/2009).

Rooney joined Ronaldo when scoring away to Chelsea in 2010/2011 and Memphis Depay, who did not exactly have the most enjoyable time as a United player, did likewise when hitting the target away vs PSV Eindhoven during the 2015/2016 campaign. Liam Whelan (1957/1958) is the only other person to achieve the feat.
