Manchester United could set historic new low against Luton

Manchester United will be looking to show their fighting spirit when they return to Premier League action against Luton this weekend.

Erik ten Hag's side played some of their best football of the season in their midweek clash with Copenhagen, but ultimately came away empty-handed in a controversial match that saw Marcus Rashford sent off. The United manager insists there are still a lot of positives to take from their performance on Wednesday night and he will be hoping to see them respond in style on Saturday afternoon.

It is far easier said than done, though. United have lost more matches than they have won this campaign and Old Trafford is far from the fortress that it was last season. The backbone of United's success during Ten Hag's debut campaign was their ability to grind out wins over the lesser teams in the division, particularly when playing at home.

United have already lost five home games this season, their most after 10 games in all competitions since 1930-31. They’ve never lost as many as six of their first 11 at home in a single season before.

They have lost to Brighton, Man City, Bayern Munich, Crystal Palace and Galatasary at Old Trafford, conceding three goals in four of the matches.

The record is even more worrying when you consider they were outplayed by Wolves in the opening match of the season, went two goals down at the hands of Nottingham Forest, relied upon a late double to beat Brentford and only beat Copenhagen thanks to a superb penalty save at the death.
