Rangers' trip to Motherwell moved to Christmas Eve as Steelmen take swipe at SPFL and Sky Sports

Motherwell's December clash with Rangers has been moved to Christmas Eve - with the Steelmen hitting out at the SPFL and broadcasters Sky Sports over a lack of consultation on the fixture switch.

The Premiership clash was scheduled to be played on Saturday, December 23 but the game has now been put back to a noon kick-off on Christmas Eve for live coverage on Sky Sports.

It is an announcement that hasn't gone down well amongst supporters, with many, understandably, having festive plans arranged and a number of supporters will not be able to attend or be unable to watch the game live on TV.

Hospitality is also likely to take a hit, with Motherwell having sold-out their packages for the Saturday date.

And the Fir Park club have criticised the SPFL and Sky for not consulting them further on the move, which they believe to be a special circumstance given the game will now take place on Christmas Eve, and blasted the hour's notice they were given.

A statement from Motherwell read: "The club were informed of the decision to move our fixture against Rangers to Christmas Eve yesterday afternoon, an hour before the SPFL initially intended to announce publicly.

"Whilst we fully acknowledge that the contract which is currently in place between the SPFL and our main broadcasters allows kick off times to be moved from Saturday to Sunday midday, with an agreed notice period, we believe that moving a major fixture to this date is a special circumstance that should’ve led to additional consultation / discussion with the club.

"We can only apologise to supporters who will be inconvenienced by this move and especially to those who will no longer be able to attend the game.
