Rangers transfer news latest as Albion Rrahmani twist emerges and Todd Cantwell move triggered

Rapid Bucharest striker Albion Rrahmani missed his side's 1-0 defeat to Petrolul apparently due to injury, although all may not be as it seems.

The Kosovan striker was expected to be fit in time to take to the field for Neil Lennon's side, but he was again ruled out and had to watch as his team-mates slipped to a 1-0 SuperLiga defeat. An injury suffered in their previous fixture against Cluj ended up ruling Rrahmani out of Monday's game, although now claim that the "unofficial" reason for his absence is that the Romanian club are braced for more bids for their hitman.

They have already turned down a bid from an unnamed club during this window with Rangers heavily linked. Now there are suggestions the Glasgow giants could try again, having raised funds by selling Sam Lammers to FC Twente and Ianis Hagi seemingly on his way back to Fiorentina. Record Sport exclusively revealed Lawrence Shankland is back on the radar, although Rrahmani may still be the preferred option.

Romanian media claim Rapid want €6million for Rrahmani including a 20 per cent sell on fee. But now it's claimed that the striker could be available for a little less than that at this stage of the window.

Meanwhile, Gers are said to be "actively" working on signing a Todd Cantwell replacement, despite Philippe Clement leaving the door open for the midfielder to return to the fold. Cantwell has submitted a transfer request and has been banished to the B team until a deal can be done to secure his exit.
