East Kilbride boss hopes four-goal hero performs transfer request U-turn after starring in big win

East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy hopes four-goal hero Calum Biggar has a change of heart about his transfer request, after starring in Kilby’s thumping 7-1 win over Civil Service Strollers on Saturday.

The striker informed Kennedy last month that he wanted to leave K-Park this summer, but injuries in the squad handed Biggar the chance to start for Kilby at the weekend.

And he grasped the opportunity, netting the opener after 11 minutes before going on to score a second-half hat-trick to add to Cami Elliott’s debut brace and a fine effort from John Robertson.

Now Kennedy says he will speak to his player this week and see if he wishes to withdraw his request to focus on firing Kilby to Lowland League glory this season.

He said: “All of a sudden, circumstances and injuries have given Calum an opportunity and he goes in on Saturday, plays well and scores four goals, so I don’t know if he wants to revisit his request. That is a conversation we’ll probably have this week.

“But I am delighted for him. He is a very good kid, Calum, and sometimes these young boys take advice and surround themselves with people who have maybe not got their best interests at heart. I think maybe Calum has been wrongly advised and, hopefully, his head is back in the game and we can look forward to the next few weeks with him and see what happens.

“Last season, Calum was probably our best player in the first few months of the season, but he snapped his collarbone and really struggled to come back from it. He was quite nervous about it, as it is easy to refracture it.

“He played with a bit of trepidation but since he’s come back in, he has been really good and I know his qualities.”
