Rangers transfer news bulletin as Joe Aribo told Southampton exit strategy but Auston Trusty 'not helped' in Ibrox move

A return to Rangers for fan favourite Joe Aribo is being touted this summer - and Southampton boss and former Ibrox loanee Russell Martin appears to have left the door open for an exit.

The Nigeria international endured a disappointing debut campaign in the English Premier League following his move to the south coast having been used sparingly by three bosses last season - Ralph Hasenhuttl, Nathan Jones and Ruben Selles - and dropped to the U23s at times this season on the clubs way to relegation. Aribo is facing the prospect of playing Championship football next term with Southampton and talk of an exit for the playmaker has ramped up with Besiktas reportedly keen on taking the playmaker to Turkey this summer.

But there is no doubt there are sections of the Rangers support that would love to see the 27-year-old back in light blue this summer during Michael Beale's summer reshuffle. Saints boss Martin told talkSPORT he was happy to sell players who were there last season to bring in new recruits.

With the Championship season kicking off this weekend, Martin said: "We will end up playing a few players that won't be here (at the end of the window) and could be in the starting eleven. Then at some point they could end up going, but you have to be realistic about the situation.

"We are really ready for that and prepared for that. Hopefully we can keep a few that have attracted real interest but we have to be realistic about the situation that a few might have to go to help us get players we really want in."

While there has been plenty of attacking additions, Gers boss Beale will also be looking at his defensive options following some shaky pre-season performances for his backline against Olympiacos and Hoffenheim.
