Rangers squad revealed as returning pair likely to left kicking heels as Steve Davis stops short of ripping it up
Steven Davis will hope to make a big impression in his short time in the Rangers hotseat but will only make “minor tweaks” in his dugout debut.
It was the way the veteran Northern Ireland midfielder went about his business on the park, quietly influencing the game in the engine room in a playing career – not yet over – in which he had a huge impact for club and country.
The 38-year-old is in Cyprus for his first game in charge since the axe fell on Michael Beale at the weekend, hoping to make it successive Europa League Group C wins for the Light Blues. "There will be minor tweaks", said Davis. “But the fortunate thing is I’ve been around the boys, I’ve played with a lot of the players, and I know their strengths and I want to give them the platform to show what they can do. For us we just want to give the boys the freedom to go out and play to their strengths really.”
Davis will of course be limited in any changes he can make even if he did want to rip up Beale’s script but he can at least welcome back Kemar Roofe and Nico Raskin in the Alphamega Stadium, if he chooses to call upon the returning duo, although it’s more likely the pair will come off the bench.
