Steven Davis set for Rangers sitdown over future as interim boss catches breath after 'out of the blue' appointment

Steven Davis admits he’s got no idea where he’ll be or what he’ll be doing in six months’ time. But the Ibrox caretaker boss is confident the Rangers side he’s been in charge of these last seven days will be in a far better place by then than the dark spot he found them in.

The former Gers midfielder was asked to lead the Light Blues through a turbulent week following Michael Beale’s sacking. It’s provided the 38-year-old with a warts-and-all peek into what life as a manager is really like. From Thursday’s Cypriot sickener against Aris Limassol to a morale-boosting win over Stephen Robinson’s high-flying St Mirren on Sunday, he’s already experienced the scope of emotions on offer in the dugout.

Whether that’s the career route he still wants to follow, the former Northern Ireland skipper still isn’t sure. But he’s certainly of the view the Ibrox squad he’ll hand over to a new boss is heading in the right direction after ensuring Gers maintained the current seven-point deficit on Celtic.

“I’m delighted as it was always going to be difficult as St Mirren have started the season well,” he said after the 3-0 win in Paisley. Robbo has them really well organised so we’re delighted to keep a clean sheet and score three goals.

“It is a step in the right direction going into the international break. It was important to come here as a group – and for the fans as well – and win. There’s still a long way to go but we have to try and take the positives out of the game. But we’ll not get ahead of ourselves. It’s only a small step to where we want to go and I’m sure the players will take some belief from it.”
