Rangers earn open Hampden ticket with Queen's Park ready to rip up their own terms in the spirit of goodwill

Queen's Park are prepared to rip up the terms of their big return to Hampden to allow Rangers’ takeover of the national stadium to continue for ‘as long as necessary’.

The ambitious Championship outfit have signed a contract with the SFA which means they are currently scheduled to move back into their spiritual home immediately after Scotland’s Nations League opener against Poland on September 5. Hampden bosses announced on Monday the Ibrox club have also struck a temporary deal to rent the national stadium until that same date after the bombshell news that their own ground will be out of action for the start of the new campaign.

As Record Sport revealed last week, however, there are concerns Philippe Clement and his side could be locked out of Ibrox until October at the earliest due to an ongoing delay of a reconstruction project in the Copland Road stand. And Queen’s Park could have thrown a major spanner in the works by demanding their own return to Hampden remained on schedule - with a home game against Morton due to be housed there on September 14.

But sources confirmed to us owner Willie Haughey has made it clear his club is prepared to press pause on their own plans in order to accommodate their crisis-hit city neighbours in the spirit of cooperation and goodwill. We have also learned that, as part of the discussions, Queen’s Park have turned down an SFA offer to ground share with Rangers in the event of any overlap, in order to leave the stadium free for the Premiership big guns to use.
