Ally McCoist blown away by sizzling Celtic pre season as Ibrox hero gets frank over Rangers
Concerned Ally McCoist admits that a lot of "experience" has left Rangers this summer - as he admits it's too hard to predict how Philippe Clement will handle the title fight next season.
It has been a tough pre-season for the Light Blues as they prepare to start the campaign against Hearts on Saturday - with the club enduring a winless run going into the new Scottish Premiership season. The club have also moved across the city to Hampden until the end of September amid delays to construction work at Ibrox - while Clement and his recruitment chief Nils Koppen have overhauled the squad in the transfer market.
Experienced heads Vaclav Cerny, Liam Kelly and Robin Propper have arrived before the kick-off - but young Rangers' recruits Jefte, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane fit more into the player-trading strategy that chairman John Bennett hopes to implement. But with the likes of John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe and Ryan Jack heading out the door Ibrox legend McCoist has concerns over experience levels in the squad.
And the misery has only been made worse by the performance of Brendan Rodgers' side on their Stateside pre-season tour - which saw them pick up wins over DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea. McCoist confesses he is hoping that neither of the sides pre-season form carries into the campaign, telling talkSPORT: "The big two have had contrasting pre-seasons, shall we say. Celtic frankly have had some unbelievable results in pre-season.
"Rangers have frankly been pretty poor, although it was a good game against Union Berlin. Defensively they were all over the place but looked very good in attack.
