Rangers beat off Man Utd, Liverpool in chase for Aberdeen wonderkid Lancelot Pollard

Rangers have reportedly beaten off the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool to land Aberdeen wonderkid Lancelot Pollard.

The Ibrox outfit have won the race for Pollard’s signature after the teenager impressed for the Dons’ Under-18s side this season, where he emerged as one of the top talents at Cormack Park.

Pollard is yet to sign his first pro contract and is free to leave Pittodrie this summer.

And Rangers have acted quickly to seal a deal after learning of significant interest from England. Indeed, the Scottish Sun reports that both United and Liverpool were looking to strike their own deal for Pollard.

Gers are now likely to have to pay their Scottish Premiership rivals a six-figure development fee.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have a strong record of developing youth players and integrating them into the first team.

Indeed, the likes of Nathan Patterson, Alex Lowry, Leon King and Charlie McCann have all broken through in recent seasons

And with a clear pathway to the first-team, Pollard has picked Rangers over heading south to England.

The report adds that if Pollard continues his rapid rise then first-team football will be on the horizon.

Gers boss van Bronckhorst is also expected to have a busy summer of recruitment.

Reaching the Europa League final put a number of the club’s top stars on the radars of Europe’s biggest leagues.

Indeed, the likes of Calvin Bassey, James Tavernier, Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent have all been tipped to leave.

However, van Bronckhorst is determined to keep his top stars and bolster his squad ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.
