Railway station taped off with forensics at scene after person is 'hit by a train'

A railway station was taped off with forensics officers at the scene after a person was reportedly hit by a train on Sunday afternoon (July 21).

Police, paramedics and National Rail workers were called to Kearsley railway station at around 4.30pm. The M.E.N understands this was following reports of a person being struck by the train.

An air ambulance was also scrambled to the scene and landed nearby, at the Stoneclough AFC pitch and Brook Street Park.

Emergency services taped off numerous entrances to the station as they worked at the scene on the tracks of the horror incident.

Pictures from the scene of the incident showed a number of police vehicles in attendance, along with paramedics. National Rail response units also attended.

The Manchester Evening News understands a person was struck by a train earlier in the afternoon. Further details have not been confirmed by British Transport Police.

National Rail confirmed on Sunday that emergency services were called to an incident on the tracks, and that all trains between Manchester Victoria and Bolton had been temporarily suspended.

Amid the incident, local councillor Tracey Wilkinson posted: "Please beware that British Transport Police were called to an incident near Kearsley Train Station.

"All trains have now been suspended that pass through Kearsley Station. Check National Rail for possible replacement bus services no information given at present. Please avoid area."

British Transport Police have been approached for a comment.
