Rail services affected with lines blocked due to 'fire on train'

Rail services are being severely delayed with many cancelled due to a 'fire on a train' this evening (March 12). A number of services running through Wilmslow are being cancelled due to this.

Disruption is expected to last for a number of hours this evening. Avanti West Coast, Northern, and Transport for Wales services are being affected.

Avanti have put information on their website stating that services are being cancelled at Wilmslow saying: "Due to a fire on a train at Wilmslow all lines are blocked." Transport for Wales put an update on their website saying: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Wilmslow all Wilmslow lines are disrupted."

Many services have been cancelled so far with further disruptions and diversions expected. Avanti added: "Services running through this station may be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Macclesfield. Disruption is expected until 20:30."

The routes affected include; Avanti West Coast between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston; Northern between Liverpool Lime Street and Wilmslow and between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe; Transport for Wales between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe/Cardiff Central/Swansea.
