Raheem Sterling explains his celebration for Chelsea goal vs former club Man City

Raheem Sterling paused his celebration after scoring for Chelsea against Manchester City due to his respect for his former club. Sterling scored Chelsea's second in a thrilling 4-4 draw in the Premier League, with another former City forward Cole Palmer converting a 94th-minute penalty to earn his new side a point.

While Palmer celebrated by shrugging his shoulders to the crowd, Sterling ran towards the corner flag, in front of the travelling City fans, and stopped his celebrations prematurely.

Explaining why he didn't celebrate fully, Sterling said he reigned in his happiness and insisted he had nothing to prove to City.

"I scored and scoring is a good feeling," he told Sky Sports. "You remember it's your old club so don't try to overdo it. I had a great time at City, people know what I can do."

Meanwhile, Palmer didn't touch on his own celebration, but said he was excited in the build-up to this game to show City what he is capable of after his summer exit.

"It was very strange, the first time I've played against City, he said. "I've got the utmost respect for the club I spent 15 years at, It was nice to see some friends. I've got a lot of friends there.

"It [the penalty] was a long time waiting. I felt confident. I've had a few penalties now. Just keep calm, in the 90-something minute. Get focussed and strike.

"It was an amazing game, I was excited before the game to see faces and show what I can do. We went behind, bounced back."
