Manchester United takeover latest as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's 'new stadium stance set'

Manchester United are on the verge of announcing Sir Jim Ratcliffe's official arrival at Old Trafford.

For a year, United fans have been in the dark on the takeover process. First it seemed as though a full sale was likely going to be agreed with Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani named the favourite.

However, he withdrew from the process in October as he cited the Glazers' valuation of the club as being too high. This left the door open for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to complete his 25 per cent acquisition during the November international break, albeit the date upon which it is to be confirmed is unclear.

In our latest look at the takeover headlines, Ratcliffe has reportedly made his stance on a new stadium clear.

According to the Daily Mail, the INEOS founder has no plans to build a brand new stadium for United. Despite the Theatre of Dreams' problems, Ratcliffe is determined to renovate the famous ground to make it fit for purpose in the 21st Century.

Ratcliffe is also thought to be keen on improving Carrington with the training ground another one of his priorities once he arrives at the club.

Meanwhile BBC Sport understands Ratcliffe is wanting to take control of the football side of the operation at Old Trafford. One source reportedly told the media outlet that it was 'unthinkable' the British billionaire would become a silent partner.

Many at United are reportedly hopeful a fresh set of eyes on the club will be beneficial in the long term.
