Proteas' collapse with bat hands England advantage in Bloem Test

The Proteas find themselves in a difficult position after a batting collapse spurred on by Lauren Bell saw England in commanding position on day two of the sole Test at Mangaung Oval.

England will resume on 31-1 and lead by 145 runs despite Ayanda Hlubi getting the edge of first innings centurion Maia Bouchier for a duck.

Resuming overnight on seven without loss, Bell struck throughout the Proteas' first innings as she got the early wicket of Anneke Bosch (6).

A 99-run stand between captain Laura Wolvaardt and Annerie Dercksen with Dercksen falling short of a maiden Test fifty as she departed for 41 off 77.

Wolvaardt top-scored with 65 off 147 balls before she was trapped LBW by Sophie Ecclestone (1/40).

Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp ensured the hosts dug their selves out of the hole they had fallen in. The duo put on a 99-run stand and went on to score half-centuries before play was briefly called off for lightning.

The Proteas sat on 237-4 when play resumed before a massive collapse saw South Africa lose six wickets for 44 runs.

Kapp departed for 57 off 74 balls and Luus was caught behind for 56 off 148 balls. Chloe Tryon made a handy 20 before she was caught at mid-on by Bell, who ended on a career-best four for 49.

Play starts at 10:00.

Scores in brief:

England 395/9d (Sciver-Brunt 128, Mlaba 4/90), 31/1 in 14 (Knight 19*, Hlubi 1/1)

South Africa 281 all out in 88.4 (Wolvaardt 65, Bell 4/49)
