WPL 2024: Young Pacer Shabnam Shakil Blows Away UP Warriorz's Chance Of Qualification

Sixteen-year-old pacer Shabnam Shakil announced her arrival on the big stage with brilliant figures of 3/11 to negate Deepti Sharma's brilliance as Gujarat Giants all but dashed UP Warriorz's hopes of qualifying for the knock-out stages with an eight-run victory in the Women's Premier League on Monday. Warriorz, with a negative net run-rate of -0.371, needed to win to have any chance of qualification but despite Deepti's unbeaten 88 off 60 balls, Warriorz could only end up with 144 for 5, chasing a target of 153 set by the Giants. India international Deepti smashed nine fours, while her partner Poonam Khemnar scored 36 off as many balls. But the Warriorz had already lost steam after being reduced to 35 for 5 and it was always going to be a catch-up game for Healy's women.

Grace Harris, Sophie Ecclestone Power UP Warriorz To Six-Wicket Victory Over Gujarat Giants

Grace Harris made a powerful fifty that helped UP Warriorz negate a sluggish surface to register a facile six-wicket win over Gujarat Giants in their Women's Premier League match on Friday. Harris (60 not out, 33 balls, 9x4, 2x6) and skipper Alyssa Healy (33, 21b, 7x4) helped Warriorz hunt down 143 in 15.4 overs for their second win in the tournament. Giants were restricted to 142 for five after left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone (3/20) used a rough deck to her advantage.

Smriti Mandhana Jumps Two Places To World No. 4 In ICC Women's ODI Rankings

India opener Smriti Mandhana has jumped two spots to grab the fourth position in the latest ICC Women's ODI Player Rankings for batters. The 27-year-old from Mumbai surpassed South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt, who slumped to fifth place after a lacklustre show in the ODI series against Australia. England's Nat Sciver Brunt, Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu and Australia's Beth Mooney occupy the top 3 positions in the batting chart, which also has India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur static at the 10th place.

RCB's England Skipper Heather Knight Pulls Out Of Women's Premier League

Women's Premier League (WPL) side Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered a jolt on Saturday as their England recruit Heather Knight pulled out of the upcoming second season of the lucrative T20 league beginning February 23. The Bengaluru-based franchise did not give any reason for Knight's pulling out but England cricketers involved in the WPL were in a dilemma, as staying back for the business end of the T20 League could lead to them missing out on their country's five-match T20I series in New Zealand.

Hayley Matthews Crowned As ICC Women's T20I Cricketer Of The Year

West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews on Wednesday was named the ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year and became just the second women's cricketer from the Caribbean to get the honour. Before Matthews, former skipper Stafanie Taylor was crowned with the coveted accolade in 2015. Matthews was sensational with her skills from the bat and the ball. She defeated competition from Australia's Ellyse Perry, England's Sophie Ecclestone, and Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu. "I have been really blessed to have a pretty good year with West Indies wearing those colours, performing really well and helping the team," Matthews said, according to ICC.

2nd Women's T20I: England Seal Series After India Suffer Batting Collapse

Indian batting looked clueless and out of depth to be dismissed for their third lowest total as England notched up a four-wicket loss in the second women's T20I to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series in Mumbai on Saturday. On a day uncapped Indian cricketers won fat pay-cheques in the Women's Premier League (WPL) auction, Shafali Verma (0), Smriti Mandhana (10), skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (9), Deepti Sharma (0) cut a sorry figure as India were shot out for 80 in 16.2 overs.
