Promotion-winning Erith Town manager Adam Woodward announces his resignation after eight years in the job

Adam Woodward - the longest-serving manager in Erith Town’s history - has stepped down after eight years in charge.

Woodward made the announcement following the Dockers’ 2-0 home defeat against Crowborough on Saturday, revealing he had been considering his future for a month.

He brought great success to the club, winning the Challenge Cup and Kent Senior Trophy double and promotion to Step 4 for the first time in their history in a record-breaking 2023/24 campaign.

Erith enjoyed a solid first season in Isthmian South East, finishing 14th, but have found the going tough this term and are three points from safety in 19th after the Crowborough defeat.

“I’m going to step down as manager,” Woodward told the club’s media team. “I feel it’s the right time.

“I feel that the intensity I work at, I’ve been here eight years now, and it needs a little bit of a change.

“There’s no harm admitting I’m not getting the best out of the players, results haven’t been great.

“When your time’s up, your time’s up, and I think the time is now for a fresh voice and a fresh change.”

Erith have gone seven league games without a win, a tough run which included a 7-3 defeat at Margate.

It’s left them in the bottom four but with plenty of time to turn things around for Woodward’s successor.

The job has taken its toll on the outgoing manager, who intends to spend well-earned time with his family.

He said: “I’m mentally drained and tired, there’s no ifs and buts about it, I have a young family that I’m taking my attention off and a wife that’s so supportive, but I feel like I owe them some time now.

“I feel like I’m not getting a tune out of the players.
