Kennington manager Dan Scorer boosted by the return of key players as they come through a difficult spell

Manager Dan Scorer feels Kennington are finding their way again after a challenging spell.

The return of key players has boosted Ton, who secured a third successive 1-1 draw last weekend thanks to Ryan Philpott’s injury-time penalty against Fisher.

They’ve gone six games without a win in the Southern Counties East Premier Division, finding themselves in 13th place, but things are looking up.

“We had a really disappointing run of form certainly through November, which poured into December,” said Scorer, whose side are due at Rusthall on Saturday.

“And I think it just highlighted the importance of three or four players within our squad, not just because of what they offer in terms of their ability and their performance, but their guidance, their maturity.

“Losing Adam Phillips from our defensive line, Ryan Philpott from our attacking line, we’d lost my brother, Tom, as the captain as well for a couple of games, and Charlie Owen, another big player in our midfield, was suspended. It certainly caused a few issues.

“So it’s nice to be able to bring all of those back into the squad and we’re showing now what we’re capable of when we’re able to put out our strongest side on paper.

“We’re still waiting on one or two to come back and that’s only going to strengthen us massively because probably our greatest strength in the first two months of the season was the depth we had in our squad.

“We started to lose one or two players for different reasons, some being recalled to clubs that we had on loan, others taking up different offers because of their strong start and then as it crept into November, the injuries and suspensions caught up with us.
