Welling United manager Ryan Maxwell feels his side are well-equipped for an Isthmian Premier survival scrap after signing Ayman El-Mogharbel and Ade Azeez along with goalkeeper Mackenzie Foley
Ryan Maxwell says Welling United are ready for a relegation dogfight.
The Wings are nine points from Isthmian Premier safety at the turn of the year and host Wingate & Finchley this Saturday (3pm).
Boss Maxwell made two key signings at the end of last week, landing midfielder Ayman El-Mogharbel and forward Ade Azeez from Cray Wanderers and Hemel Hempstead respectively.
He worked with both players at Sittingbourne last season, while Wings fans know all about Azeez from his previous spell at Park View Road.
Welling have also signed goalkeeper Mackenzie Foley from Tonbridge Angels.
The Wings won successive games for the first time in more than a year when they beat Cheshunt and Whitehawk but go into the Wingate match on back-to-back defeats, losing to an injury-time goal at Lewes and going down 4-1 to high-flying Brentwood, a scoreline that didn’t reflect their performance.
“There’s been improvements, that’s for sure,” said Maxwell.
“We’ve got better, the squad’s got better and we will continually get better and we will win games.
“I’m looking forward to getting a run of games, we’re hoping the games are on, the squad’s ready.
“We trained exceptionally hard on Saturday, showed great attitude, good character, and there was a good vibe.
“The boys know what’s ahead of them.
“We’re in a dogfight and we’re prepared for it, we’re ready for it, and we’re looking forward to it.
“It’s important you sign the right people. You sign people you’re aware of, who know where you’re at, and have experience of it and know how to win games of football.
“We’ve added those, you can never have too many of them, but we look at our squad now in comparison to when we came in, we’ve certainly added the right type of player for where we’re currently
