'Probably his last' - Ineos changes at Man United suggest anything else would be 'illogical'

Sunday's Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium could be Erik ten Hag's final league derby in charge of Manchester United.

Our chief United writer, Samuel Luckhurst, who has covered Ten Hag's time in charge at Old Trafford closer than anyone, believes there could be a managerial change in M16 at some point this year. As Samuel reported earlier this week, Ten Hag's position at Old Trafford is currently uncertain and the Ineos Group have analysed potential replacements.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi has been identified as a person of interest after overseeing a stellar job at the Amex Stadium since replacing Graham Potter in September 2022. Potter has also been linked with the possibility of replacing Ten Hag by reports elsewhere.

After beating Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup in midweek, a small weight of pressure has been lifted from Ten Hag's shoulders, with the aforementioned competition giving United their only remaining hope of winning a trophy this season. The Reds last won the FA Cup in 2016.

Ahead of Sunday's game, Samuel participated in our pre-derby podcast alongside chief Manchester City writer, Simon Bajkowski and Senior Football Writer, Tyrone Marshall, who was on hosting duties. Simon asked if this weekend's clash could be Ten Hag's final derby and Samuel believed it could certainly be his last one in the Premier League, acknowledging they could still meet in the FA Cup.
