Premier League give Everton points deduction update as Man City await charges outcome

Premier League chief Richard Masters has revealed that key evidence linked to Everton’s punishment for breaching Profitability and Sustainability rules will not be made public.

The Toffees were deducted 10 points back at the end of last year, leaving them in a fight against Premier League relegation. The decision came after Man City were charged with 115 alleged breaches of financial rules back in February 2023.

Masters was previously grilled by a government panel over the decision surrounding Everton. In the aftermath, a letter was sent to the chief executive which called for the publication of the full version of his witness statement to an independent commission that rules on Everton’s vase as well as the minutes from a Premier League board meeting in August, when it was said that officials agreed on the penalty formula the league would present to the independent commission.

Responding to the letter, Masters confirmed that those things would not be published: “As the committee will appreciate, being a private business, it is not our practice to provide or publish minutes of Premier League Board Meetings,” he wrote.

"Nor are we able to publish submissions the Premier League Board or executive make as part of confidential legal proceedings.” He insisted, however, that: “At all times during this process, the Premier League has sought to treat the club fairly and with respect.
