'Embarrassing' - Ian Wright makes Man City charges point after Everton points deduction 'mistake'

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has criticised the Premier League for their handling of Everton's Financial Fair Play breach - questioning how Manchester City charges will be dealt with.

This week, the Toffees' 10-point deduction for their one breach was reduced to six points following their appeal. Everton have been under investigation by an independent panel since March 2022, after their charge from the English top-flight.

City were charged with 115 breaches after an investigation was launched in 2018 before the case was referred to a panel last February. The club insists that they have an irrefutable body of evidence to clear their name.

Everton have since been charged with another breach by the Premier League, alongside Nottingham Forest, but there has been criticism towards the top-flight governing body for the delay in reaching a verdict after Sean Dyche's side were forced to wait to learn their fate.

Wright was sympathetic with Everton for their struggles in recent months battling the charge and the ex-Premier League striker believes City's lawyers will "have them dancing".

"Don’t you think, if that’s the case, remember the Premier League made a mistake on two of the charges," said the 60-year-old.

"If you’ve got people who are doing that job, and they’ve got nine to look over or whatever it is, and they get them wrong to the point where they’ve got to give points back - what are Manchester City’s lawyers going to do to people like this? They are going to have them dancing," Wright told the Stick to Football Podcast.
