Popular Northern Quarter bar and restaurant announces shock closure after eight years

A popular Northern Quarter bar and restaurant has announced its permanent closure after eight years. However, owners have confirmed a brand new concept will take its place.

The sophisticated Asian-inspired restaurant & bar, Cottonopolis, first opened in 2015 within a Grade II-listed building on the corner of Newton Street and Dale Street, transforming a former tailor's studio into a swanky food and drink spot. While the venue will not reopen, owners confirmed plans are well underway to launch a new brand with a fresh fit-out and new food and drink offering in early 2024.

Owned by husband-and-wife duo Nick and Hayley Muir, Cottonopolis maintains many of the historic building’s original features, including cornicing work, stripped red brick walls, and repurposed old chains and metal doors. Some of the wear and tear on the original floorboards leads back to where the tailors walked around in the workshop in their clogs while they made garments.

"We’ve already been hard at work with our team behind the scenes to develop our next adventure, which will bring a new quality place to eat and drink to the NQ, with the same exceptional standards
