Why Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood was sent-off for Getafe

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas says Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood told the referee not to 'f*** with me' after being sent-off in Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano.

Getafe resumed their campaign following the Christmas break with a limp 2-0 home defeat to the mid-table outfit, though their hopes of making a winning start to the New Year were compounded by receiving three red cards. Along with Greenwood, Juanmi Latasa and Damian Suarez also saw red.

Getafe ended with eight men on the field, ending their four-game unbeaten run. Greenwood, who has scored five goals since joining the Spanish club on loan in September, was dismissed just five minutes into the second half, at which point Getafe were already 2-0 down and down to 10 men.

The United loanee was sent off after talking out of turn to referee Jorge Figueroa. Greenwood and a cluster of his teammates had surrounded the official to protest a decision.

It was Greenwood's terminology that saw him dismissed with Getafe chief Bordalas detailing what the United attacker allegedly said to Figueroa resulting in him earning the first red card of his senior career.

"The player told me that he said 'don’t f*** with me', only that," said Bordalas. "It was in frustration but at no point has he insulted anybody." The Getafe boss added: "It was a comment, 'don’t f*** with me, why won't you blow (the whistle)."
