Police update after man left with 'life-changing' injuries in stabbing

A man who was arrested after a stabbing in Failsworth has been released on bail, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Field Street just before 8am on Sunday morning (May 14) to 'reports of concern for the welfare' of a man. The man - aged in his 40s - was rushed to hospital from the scene.

He suffered 'life-changing' injuries to his wrist after being stabbed. A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

In an update issued this morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said he had since been released on bail with conditions. Following the incident, a cordon was set up on Field Street as forensic officers scoured the area for evidence.

Officers later set up a second cordon more than two miles away on Heron Street, where at least 38 evidence markers could be seen around the car park of Mill View Court. Neighbours told the Manchester Evening News they were 'shocked' by the incident after hearing shouting and screaming that morning.

Two residents told the M.E.N they were woken by a 'loud bang' and 'screaming' at around 7:30am. "And then there was a lot of really loud shouting," one said. "There was a lot of banging, but we couldn't see anything. Then there was shouting, and then it went quiet.

"I couldn't go back to sleep. I was just praying everyone was okay."

She said the street was a 'close-knit community' and the incident left her worrying about the welfare of her neighbours. "I've got sons, and I am scared for them," she told the M.E.N with tears in her eyes.
