Police issue update after car crashes onto Manchester railway line
Police have issued an update following a dramatic collision which has caused trains to be cancelled for most of the day. A BMW landed on its roof on the railway line beneath the Regent Road roundabout following a crash at 2am today (February 7).
Police arrested the driver on suspicion of drink driving. In an update, Greater Manchester Police has confirmed the driver as a man in his 30s.
He was taken to hospital for assessment, but his injuries are not thought to be serious. Network Rail says Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services which run through Eccles are likely to be cancelled throughout the day as repairs take place on the line.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "GMP responded to a collision on Regent Road in Salford this morning at around 2am (Friday, February 7 2025), following reports of a road traffic collision involving one car on the railway line near Regent Road roundabout in Salford.
"Emergency service colleagues attended and one man in his 30s was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"There is still a police scene in place on Regent Road and we continue to work with British Transport Police and Network Rail to conduct initial enquiries.
