Police close off city park and man in critical condition following serious incident - live updates

A heavy police presence is in place in Cardiff following reports of a serious assault late on Wednesday night.

An area of parkland at Heol Trelai has been cordoned off with police tape, and multiple South Wales Police vehicles are in the area.

A white and yellow coloured tent has been erected within the cordon on parkland.

A man is in a critical condition in hospital following the incident.

A spokeswoman for the police said: "South Wales Police is investigating a serious assault in Caerau, Cardiff,

"Just before midnight last night, officers were called by the ambulance service to an injured man in the field opposite Heol y Gaer.

"A 32-year-old man is in a critical condition at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and a 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

"Enquiries are on-going."
