Philippe Clement not in Rangers rush to go top as he explains stoppage time speed demands against Ross County

Rangers boss Philippe Clement insists he wasn't in a rush to hit the top of the table despite urgent demands for his players to stop celebrating and keep playing after going 301 up against Ross County.

A brace from Cyriel Dessers came either side of Simon Murray's shock equaliser, before John Souttar wrapped things up in injury time. Belgian boss Clement had urged his team to go on and add to the scoreline at 3-1, with Rangers needing a three-goal victory to leapfrog Celtic going into the Premiership fixtures next weekend. An inspired display from Ross County stopper George Wickens combined with some poor finishing prevented the Light Blues from winning by a larger margin, with Nigerian international Dessers wondering how he didn't come away with a hat trick.

But the former Monaco and Club Brugge manager insists he wasn't thinking about the prospect of rising to the summit of the table with a decisive fourth goal.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound, he said: "No it wasn't about that. It was because we felt the momentum to go and score goals. There are still a lot of games to go and we need to focus on ourselves and not worry about how many goals other teams have."

The 49-year-old then added that his sole focus is on trying to extend Rangers' eight-game winning run, despite matching Old Firm rivals Celtic's points tally. "I am not busy with Celtic, I am busy with Rangers", he stated.

!I want to make this team better and get as many points and to win as many trophies as possible. We want the club to grow in the future too so are only focused on ourselves. We are the only team in three competitions and are proud about that and will fight hard in them."
