Philippe Clement can navigate Rangers success pitfalls as boss has plan to deal with hangers on

Philippe Clement's smile was as wide as the Clyde as he lifted the Viaplay Cup trophy on Sunday.

But Clement insists he's not naive to the pitfalls that success can bring when it comes to his Rangers squad. An unbeaten start to his Ibrox reign has seen the Light Blues win their Europa League group to book a spot in the last 16 and claim the first trophy of the season with a win over Aberdeen at Hampden.

Clement is all about the collective, but knows that as players win things, they start to think about themselves. That can harm chances of adding to the trophy collection, and with a title race seemingly back on and the Scottish Cup still up for grabs, the Belgian knows he must keep preaching the benefits of remaining as one, and accepts that some of his stars may need a reminder in the future when their minds inevitably wander.

"It's a logical thing," he said. "When I came into the building, the confidence was not there. But I saw what I saw in the games and the first days in training.

"Every experience makes you stronger. The strongest teams I played in were together two or three years. And those were teams who had a lot experiences together; good, but also bad, because you don't only get stronger out of good experiences but also out of bad experiences if you take the right conclusions from them.
