Perthshire golfer Megan Ashley targets best year yet after delight of another high performance squad selection
Earning Scottish squad selection is a feeling that will never grow old for Perthshire golfer Megan Ashley.
The Blairgowrie member was recently named in the women’s high performance group for 2023/24 and is planning on making it her best year on the course yet.
Megan joins nine other American and UK-based players in the squad, including Auchterarder Golf Club’s Penelope Brown and Perth and Kinross county player Jennifer Saxton.
“My reaction is exactly what you would expect – I was delighted,” Megan told the PA.
“It was a pleasant surprise and reassurance that I’m still on track with the squad. It means a lot at the end of a long year to get that recognition and acknowledgement that the work you’re putting in is worth it.
“Although it might not be everyone’s goal, representing your country really is a special feeling and one that won’t ever get old.”
Megan was also included in the squad last year and feels well-placed to tee-up more success across the next 12 months.
She said: “Being part of the squad has been a really interesting learning curve this past year.
“I have met some great people along the way and it’s great to have a group of quality golfers to learn from and play with.
“I have definitely become more aware of the mental side of the game this past year, so I have been working on that alongside various preparation aspects.
“I think I’m finally appreciating the importance of small details and controlling what you can before a tournament starts. Handling my nerves is still a work in progress but that is okay.”
She continued: “Heading into the 2024 season I just want to keep giving myself the best chance to perform in tournaments, but above all keep enjoying it.
